Amanda Ngoho Reavey leads a reading during a #NoDAPL Water Protector’s Fundraiser at the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts Nov. 5 that emphasizes the magnitude of pipeline spills over the last five years.

Incidents, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, include:
2012 – 573 pipeline incidents, 12 fatalities, 57 injuries, total cost $229,613,337
2013 – 619 incidents, nine fatalities, 44 injuries, $349,961,947
2014 – 698 incidents, 19 fatalities, 95 injuries $310,228,836
2015 – 715 incidents, 12 fatalities, 49 injuries, $338,814,294
2016 so far – 500 incidents, 13 fatalities, 66 injuries, $196,646,940

The event, hosted by Milwaukee’s Standing Rock Support Committee (now the Milwaukee Indigenous Resistance Solidarity Network), collected almost $3,000 for the Legal Defense Fund and Honor the Earth for the Water Protectors.
